Advertising is a huge part of our everyday lives. It is often aimed at selling us something, or letting us know about products, events, and other non-profiteering applications.
For this post, view and comment about these advertisements.
- Use of colour? Lettering?
- Use of sound? Music or voice?
- Use of camera angles and special effects to advertise the product?
- Is it a good advertisement? What makes it good or what can be improved?

Hi
I think the polar bear and penguin ad was very cute. When the baby penguin gave the baby polar bear some coke it was welcoming it in to its culture, but I don’t get what it had to do with coke?I thought the sound was clear and I liked the setting.
I think the Barak Obama ad was good because it had lots of information. He was talking about how bad America was and things he could do to make America better.
I did not think the pizza ad was good because it said you could get a free mobile phone and a pizza and I really don’t belive that! I also think the lady in the picture looks a bit weird and the background does not suit it.
I liked the car ad because it was plain and they used a good colours.
I thought the Ipod ad was plain because it just looks like any other Ipod.
For the car and Ipod ad I think it could say more words.
Bye:)

hi, its nina,(obiously)
i think the pizza and phone one was to busy and it wasnt very eye catching because of the backround, it didnt suit.
i didnt like the car one either it was too pixilated it seems like they are a cheap company or something.
i think the old fashoined advertising was cool because we dont see that type of advertising anymore and it was just different.
by the way i couldnt get the videos to run my laptop doent alow it and had to post fast because i need to do a quick job before bed.

Hi Nina and Amelia,
Great to see you are the first to post. I liked the way that you have both judged the advertisements and justified why you thought they were effective or not. I have taken off the ipod picture you are referring to, as it did not have any text.
For Nina – I am glad you mentioned the pixelation on the car, in fact that is only due to me enlarging the picture on our blog – but all the same, you made a good observation.
I wonder why Amelia doesn’t believe the pizza/phone ad?
For new posters – Who do you think the audience is for these ads? The pizza one might give you some clues to answering this question.
Keep it up!

Hi Felix here,
I watched the Obama clip. It was letting us know what he plans to do as president. The lettering was plain and not distracting, there was no music, sound or special effects. Just him talking a lot without much pausing. The camera slowly zoomed in a bit so he seemed closer at the end. The ad was boring and factual -not enticing me to vote for him but he is my favourite for President of America.

Hi guys,
I just watched the ad for coke and I think that it was funny and entertaining.
I kind of agree with Amelia because it doesn’t really have anything to do with coke, but I think they’re trying to say that coke keeps the party going, so if you want a long lasting party drink Coke.
I think that the ad is entertaining because its animated and that its got good music. Plus its funny and its got a cute penguin in it.
With the cellphone ad, I’m not sure that it looks like a real ad. I also agree with Amelia about how she doesn’t believe it because its kind of weird in a way and think about it, do you really get free phones and free pizzas together? I don’t think so.
Plus, I think that the pizza looks disgusting and the lady with the cellphone looks scary.

Francesco here,
I think that Obama ad was boring but all political ads are. I think that Obama should become president because he said he will stop the war going on in Iraq.I think that free phone and free pizza is not good because there probably just saying that to get your attention and there going to make you pay.The car ad was just plain and didn’t look like you could trust it,it looked like a second hand car it also looks quite cheap.

Hi! Alicia here.
I think the ‘Become a vegetarian ad’, should be improved, because the ad looks quite wierd and they should improve it by adding some pictures of what vegetarians eat. Also, by the way, vegetarians don’t eat meat and human flesh! I see that they’ve made a huge mistake by presenting it in a wierd way.
On the ‘FREE PHONE’ ad, I think that they made the word big, to catch peoples attention.
SEE YAH!!!

Hi its Kate
I think that the Obama ad was boring because all that was happening was that him being filmed and somtimes some faded writing would come up and the camera would zoom in but it was probly just trying to get a message out to people without them getting distracted by other effects in that film. I think the become a vegertain was weird and cool because it was trying to say that a chicken eating our leg is like us eating a chicken I think it is trying to make people realise that it is kind of gross. I liked the old old adds because you don’t get them any more and they have cool drawings.I think the get a free phone and a free pizza ad was weird because the colours they used didnt sute and the lady looked odd and weird and I’m not too sure that getting a free phone and pizza would be true because phones are quite expensive and the advert looked like not much effort was put into it and the diffrent sized lettering looked to bold and all the differnt colour text didn’t fit into the main thing and the lady on the not photo graph back groung looked a bit odd.
I think the car ad looked cool because it was plain and didn’t try to make it look like a big deal.
see ya later guys

Hi it;s anneke,
I think the phone/pizza ad was eye catching with the bright colours (and because it says ‘free phone’) and lettering but i dont really belive the free phone and pizza because most phones now-days are quite expensive and if every everyone saw that ad and wanted to get the new phone, the pizza company will be spending alot of money on the ‘FREE’ phones insteed of there buisness.
I didn’t like the ‘vegetarian ad’ because 1.it didn’t really have any thing to do with being vegetarian and 2.because why would a vegetarin eat meat let alone a human leg!(any way if I take a look at that ads picture alone I have no ider what its trying to say!)

I agree with Alicia because that adi is not very atractive and to improve it i would add some of the positive things about being a vegetarian.I also dont like how they have put part of a human body on it when it is to do with not eating meat.
I relly think the coke adi is cute and I get what they are tring to say but it wouldent relly makie me buy it.

Hi everyone,
I think the coke ad was very cute, it had great graphics, music and setting.
The Barack Obama ad was OK but maybe he could have done a bit more than just speak in the same voice because I got a little bored.
I get how the chicken ad was saying that it was a chicken-leg but I don’t get how it is to do with being vegetarian.
I don’t think the pizza ad was very good because they would probebly charge you about another $15-$20 more because they can and they want some money for the phone.I also think it is aimed at women because they put a pink and white background in.
I like the car ad was very affective because they used simple but effective colours.
