I think that they should not have to change people’s face. It’s not fair to have a avatisement so people can look like more perfetec.

  2.   harry Says:

i think this is silly why dont they just dump computer minipulation all together !!!!

    harry

  3.   gilbert Says:

I agree with Harry because do they really have to photoshop the persons face?
Changing her looks completly,is bad enough but changing the shape of her face,
    The’ve gone way too far.
I think she looks pretty enough without the computer manipulation.
Also, when the’re changing are they actually using the product or are they just using all this different stuff to make her look pretty?

    Gilbert :-)

  4.   kate Says:

I think the clip is trying to say that in pictures we see of people in advertisments, posters and magazines you often see some one that looks beautiful but really it is not what they actually look like. Often the person is changed so much by the computer, hair and make up that theylook nothing like they do in real life. Also other people could compare them selves to the pictures and think that there not pretty and not like them selves. also if they are advertiesing a product do they use it on the person that is having a photo?
I think that it is fine to use a bit of make up but not to change the person compleatly or to use the computer but if you are advertising for make up then people should use the make up brand they are advertising not any other type of make up and not digitally change a persons face/body.

  5.   room18space Says:

Well done to Gilbert and Kate. You have raised some very interesting points. I think I can see a common theme to both of your posts - TRUTH.

Harry, I feel that you should extend your post - you did not quite prove your point in alot of detail and would need to argue your ideas more strongly for them to be widely recognised.

In these advertisements, which I believe most of us may see on TV, Internet and in magazines, each day; are they portraying a REAL person? Do women really look like the one used in the final advertisement? Do most women look like most magazine images? Also, remember this clip is not an advertisement for a specific product, Dove is only the sponsor for this message, it is not promoting a woman that is using Dove products.

Kate also raised the point of people thinking they are not pretty as their normal selves due to these type of advertisements. Can most ladies or girls look like the models used? Does it affect self-esteem? Svetlana said manipulation makes people make more perfect, good point, but what actually is perfect or beautiful?

    Andrew

  6.   ahmed Says:

it is not ok to change peoples look because it might hurt peoples self-esteem and every one is unique.

  7.   Amelia Says:

I think its like false advertising because they are not even putting the product on the model and they changed some of her look on the computer. It might not even work on some people and it would be a waste of their money. It could hurt the models feelings because dove evolution could think the model looked ugly.As well as that to make it easier they could just change the model on the computer. To make it fair they could just get a model and put the product on her and show her as she really looks.

    Amelia :)

  8.   kate Says:

    Andrew
no i dont think that they do because in my magazine there is a picture of ashely tisdale in all this makeup but then there is a picture of what she looks like in real life and she looks sort of the same but not- she just looks normal not like she did in the photo. also i think that it does affect self asteem because some people wish so much to look like the person in the photo that they dont think that they are beautiful and think that they are ugly. I think that the dove adds are trying to say that other adds put too much focus on looking beautyful there are much more then looking perfect or beautyful and that it doesnt matter what the person looks like its what they are as a person that counts and that they are happy
    kate :):):)

  9.   anneke Says:

I think in the overall clip that they actually didn’t use the product they where selling so I would call this whole thing a lie. I think company’s who do this are only doing it for the money and not thinking of other before them self’s. If people didn’t know about all of this then found out after they would be really disappointed and angry then won’t buy this product again which would bring the company’s money to a halt.
    Thanks a lot Anneke!

  10.   Francesco Says:

I think that companies who do that are lying, they are not actually using the product they are selling and hardly any one knows about it so that is why nobody is doing anything about it. I agree with Gilbert, she looks pretty without the computer manipulation.

  11.   margaret-rae Says:

I agree with Ahmed about them changing her on the computer may be hurting her feelings and self-esteem because her the way she was wasn’t good enough, also by doing that they show that even they don’t belive that there product works.
    from Margaret-Rae

  12.   Anna Says:

I agree with Ahmed about the computer manipulation because it may be hurting her feelings by making her fell that she’s not pretty enough. I also think that when they do that the model might not even use the product (like how margret-rae said)
But you can also ask allot of questions like; Why are they changing peoples looks? and who says who beautiful? I also agree with Anneke The whole thing is a lie!
    Bye Anna :) :)

  13.   gilbert Says:

I think that the ads of people that arent actually the real person ruin other peoples self-esteem.
I think this because people cant really get to look that beatiful because the people who try to sell the product are actually using the computer to change the woman. People will think that they are really ugly because the person on the ad is really pretty and they know they cant get that pretty. They dont know that the people who are trying to sell the product are using computer manipulation. They dont know its a complete lie!

    Gilbert :-)

  14.   daphney Says:

I think it isn’t fair for the model. It may hurt the models feelings. The product may work to others. Some may say she is so beautiful but they may not know they used makeup and computer manipulation just to make her that beautiful.

Other people may not like their looks. Some may say that they look bad or ugly.Mostly people spend loads of dollars just to buy heaps of beauty products that may not work for them.It isn’t so fair. They are false advertising. You may not know that the product you bought may not work that well for you.

    Daphney!!

  15.   daphney Says:

I think that it may encourage people that watch the advertisment.
It’s also good for the Dove Factory because the factorywill recieve some money and increase more sales.
It can decieve person that buy the product.
It may also hurt the customer’s feelings if it didn’t work that well or if it didn’t do any change to their face.

    DAPHNEY:)

  16.   hannah year 6 Says:

in the clip i think they are trying to say that we can change you but you wont look that way to every body else.Because if they ar egoing to change them the person that got changed will think they look the person on the computer but they dont just because the look bad on the outside its what is in the inside that realy counts.

  17.   hannah year 6 Says:

i agree with ahmed because the dove self astem thing is ment to help younger girls self esteem
but to me these clips wouldent help me at all because they show the real way how they change them.

  18.   felix Says:

I think it may hurt peoples feelings when they can’t look like the images on the billboards. I think even though Dove are criticising other beauty advertisements this really an ad for them - they are trying to say use our products, we accept you as you are - use us.

  19.   ashley Says:

I think its false advertising because 1 its not a dove product that they are using 2 they use computer minpulation and thats false advertising because for example … I walk down the streets and see that billboard and say cool i’m going to by that 1 week later wellit didn’t work whats the use, any way WHY NOT DISPLAY A MASTER PIECE INSTEAD?
    IS IT FAIR?
    ashley

  20.   Nina Says:

i think it might hurt peoples feelings because when they look at the billboard they think they will end up looking like that but when they find out it doesnt work it might effect thier emotional life them thinking they are going to look like the lady on the billboard but may even turn out worse!

  21.   Nina Says:

what i forgot to say on the other one is that in a way the finshed picture doesn’t actully look that good and it doesn’t look reall either!

  22.   Svetlana wotton Says:

I agree with Ashley because it is false advertising. Why are they doinig it?Is it o.k or not?

  23.   andrew Says:

I agree with felix because when they put the makeup on they might not look like the boy or the girl on the t.v. or on the poster and it might hurt there feelings

  24.   ALICIA Says:

I think Gilbert raised a good point about how people might think that the dove company had used products on the ladies who go on the ads but their wrong its all computer manipulation.
What do they mean when they say it works ? When they havn`t even tested it and claim to say it works . Have they tested it really?
I think NOT ,its all in for the money , but what about the people who watch the ad and think its true they`re actually purchasing a faulty product . What do you think????

    Alicia (:

  25.   ahmed Says:

I think that it is wrong to change peoples look for anything because the person who got changed might think they are too ugly too be on a show and people looking at it might think he/she is ugly

  26.   normastar Says:

    Hello Room 18!
I think that is so cool! That makes a cool difference to your face.

But you are who you are don’t make yourself younger just like Ahmed said!!

    Good point!

  27.   Trish Says:

The beauty industry is a very interesting industry. It relies so heavily on advertising, but if this footage is anything to go by, one could assume that a lot of the advertising is false.

    Isn’t false advertising illegal??

Also isn’t it a pity that we look at advertising to tell us what is beautiful, rather than what we find beautiful.

I wonder how she felt after having her physical features altered so much? Good? Bad? Indifferent? How do you think you would feel?

  28.   Nadine Says:

    Hi room18!
I’m Nadine from the 08Allstars! I really thibk that the lady’s transformance is extraordinary!! She probably used to have face problems, but after a surgery she’s gotten better? Her transformation is so amazing!! Wow. Where did you get this information from? The message is quite clear in this case. It tells you that you shouldn’t give up on yourself if you think you don’t look pretty. You should always be persistent until you find what you want. Basically, we’ve got to strive hard to get what you want!! :P
    Hope you like my answer?
    Nadine

  29.   Pam Thompson Says:

Hello Room 18.You’ve raised some very interesting points here. What is beauty - is it just what someone looks like, or is there more to it than that? As Kate said, it also raises the idea of truth and whether we can always believe what we see.

Well done to you all for some great thinking.:-)
