Shakespear Camp 2008

Posted by room18space on April 13, 2008

Shakespear Camp was an amazing place. Room 18, 17, and part of Room 19 had an excellent and fun time during their stay. You were all fantastic and we noticed that you were all supporting eachother during testing times. I will certainly be looking forward to another camp at Shakespear Lodge.

This post is a reflection place. Think about:

- What you enjoyed most and why

- Times that you were tested emotionally and physically.

- A time when you were supported by your friends and when you did the same.

- Your highlights of the camp.

- A way in which you grew through a challenge. For example; something you had never done before and are now ready to give it another try.

At camp I enjoyed the mountain boarding because when you’re on the board you felt weightless and you can go at a tremendous speed and it feels really cool!!!! I also really liked the kayaking because it was challenging working with your buddy to move the kayak and we did kayak kungfu which was really fun! At camp I was challenged emotionally and physically by rock climbing and bouldering because I found it hard to push your self up the wall and when you came down It was hard getting over the edge of the platform at the top because I thought I would fall into the ground and die. At camp my friends supported me at the camp concert by cheering me on and encouraging me. I think I did the same to. The highlight of camp for me was meeting new people, trying new things and the whole experience. On orienteering we had to hunt for hidden symbols and codes. Radios were fun to play with, we learnt what to say e.g. say I was talking to abc and I was called cba I would say abc, abc, abc this is cba then I would say whatever I want to say then I would say over. Beach sculpture was fun. We had to make something that was a symbol of us. The symbol I made was a tree because I like climbing. I have all ready told you about mountoin boarding and kayaking.
Thank you to all the staff and parents at camp with out you camp would be bad :(
    But you made it fun
    Bye

    Hi,
I enjoyed the archery and the moutain boarding best, because it was really fun and it was challenging. :-)
I was tested emotionally and physically when I got annyoyed when I couldent aim the arrow properly in archery
and when I was doing moutain boarding I nearly fell off and could have hurt myself. :-(
I was supported by friends when I was climbing up the rock wall and at the same I was supporting others. :-)
My highlights for camp are above.
I grew through a challenge by becoming more confident in archery. :-)

    hi its kate here
    camp was AWESOME!
The things that i enjoyed the most about camp were
the activities- my favourite activties were rock climbing and kayaking they were fun and challenging.
times that i was tested physcially were pulling the mountain boards up the steephill on a boiling hot day, pulling the string back on the bow when i was doing archery and walking so much and running for clues in orienterring it was hard work.
times that i was teasted emotionally were going down from the rock climbing wall i was scared that i would fall straight down i overcame that by just doing it and looking ahead.
a time that i was supported by my friends was when i was going down the the rock climbing wall because as i said above i was scaried of going down. i supported other people when they were doing somthing that they had never done before or when they looked worried about doing somthing or just when they were doing somthing they thought was challenging.
the high lights of the camp were every thing!
and this was my last primary school camp and i will never forget it.
also another cool thing was the camp concert -I really enjoyed getting together with my frinds and putting the dance together and watching everyone in the show perform. They were really good.

    i loved camp!!!!!!!!!!
i enjoyed camp because I was challenged and had fun.
i was tested when i was climbing up the rock wall because i couldn’t reach some of the foot holds.
felix cheered me on when i was climbing up the rock wall.(-:
at camp i got way better at archery.

    camp was awesome !!!!!!!!

  5.   Isabella Says:

I enjoyed kayaking because we had some restrictions about how far you were allowed to go out and such but basically you were allowed to do anythong else. Also, the instructor was very nice Archary was awesome because you got to shoot polystrene rabbits and polystrene blocks with gold, blue and red colours on them. Again, the instructor was very nice.
Something that I found physicly challenging was orienteering because you had to climb up one extremly big hill just to get one symbol.
Something that I found emotionally challenging was rock climbing because I’m not to fond of heights.
Going to sleep on the first night was a nightmare because everyone was talking and no one could get to sleep. My friend, Anna backed me up on this because both me and her wanted to get to sleep but we couldn’t. I did the same for her because otherwise we wouldn’t of been able to get to sleep that night.
The highlight for camp was the night walk on the last night because of all the veiws of the city and it’s lights. You could see Rangitoto very clearly and the water was very, very misty. (Hopefully my pictures will come out.)
My challenge that I grew through was mountain boarding because I hadn’t done it before and I learnt how to do it very quickly. If I gave it another try, I think I would be going down hill as soon as I got on my board because I would already knw how to mountain board.

    Bye for now,
    Isabella:)

  6.   ahmed Says:

If i went to camp i would have loved archery because i have lots of interest in medieval times.
rock climbing would be a physical and emotionally challange.
    bye,ahmed

  7.   Iosa Says:

At camp I loved everything because I only tryed ‘Rock climbing and kayaking once:)
But the activity I mostly enjoyed at camp was Archery because Kev (The teacher) taught us how to stand in the right position in tne right time and in the right place:)He taught us how far or how short I should pull the string:)He taught us what the bow was made of and told me what the arrow was made of:)Kev told us why the white bit at the end of the arrow should go on the right side of the arrow HHMM…its because if it is on the left side of the bow or the bottom then it would hit the bow and fall off.

Mountain Boarding was frustrating for me because I couldnt keep balance because I kept on turning left and right so I coudnt keep straight.:(
At camp while I was climbing the rock clinb Nina,Camille,Zachary and Pari cheerd me on while I was trying to straightin my foot:)And while Zachary was climbing and was going to stop I ws the only one cheering him on.
My highlight for camp was camp concert because Kevin was the best at playing the guiter.
Mountain boarding was my last activity but it was my first try and I have learnt many cool thins from it and I am ready to learn more next year and will be ready for another shot:):)

I enjoyed everything at camp also - and of course one of my favourite things was the beach sculpture. I did not get to try the activities out as I was busy with watching all of the fantastic students that were there.

I enjoyed watching all of you trying new things and learning new skills. I think that all of you did a great job at supporting one another during the camp, whether it was when someone was struggling at an activity, working together on kayaking or beach sculpture or even helping another person during non-activity times. I was actually really impressed to see you organise your own games during free time and working together that way.

Keep up your fantastic comments Room 18!

Iosa,I like the way you spoke about other people, and how they helped you out and vice versa. I could tell you were really involved in your group activities and recognise the memories that you now have - you have all grown through these experiences, so keep the memories safe.

I thought it was nice that Kate mentioned that this would be her last primary camp. To Anna - thanks for recognising all the people that organised the camp - You are very welcome.

Keep it up Room 18! You are a fantastic group of children.

    hi its kayla here -

camp was awsome - first ever camp.

i loved rock climbing because, i have only done it at clip”n”climb, but i made it to the top on all of them even on the hardest one that only i can do but my group was really good at it. what tested me alot was the mountain boarding because it was really challenging but i gave it a go any way. and it wasn’t
that scary thats why i gave it a go. i supported my team and one familiar person called Jock in my group - he tried to climb the rock wall and he made it up half way and then he couldn’t go up much further so i cheered him on - so i was relating to others. my highlight is the rock wall and i will remember it for a really long time from year 5.
i hade never done mountain boarding before and i will definitely try it again.
I also want TO THANK all the parents that helped with the camp and took part THANK YOU.

  11.   hannah year 6 Says:

This year’s camp was so fun because I tried every thing
And I also made it to the bottom of the hill for mountain boarding.
My fave thing was climbing because every one was trying
And I enjoyed watching people get to the top.

At camp kayaking test me emotionally and physically because I
Was struggling with the paddle it was hard to keep in time
With Kayla and I was shouting a her whenever I got frustrated.

At camp I was supported a lot when I was climbing on the 3ed wall
Because I kept getting stuck and saying that I couldn’t do it but when
People cheered me on that made me more positive. I was also was cheering
People on when they were climbing and I think that made them more positive
    To.

I liked every thing at camp!!!!!!!! even
The food and I am a really fussy eater.

This year at camp I have learnt how to mountain board.
Now I can take that on and show some others some skills
and how to get down the big hills with out falling over.

    YAY FOR CAMP 2008!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12.   anneke Says:

    Hi it’s Anneke
Camp this year was the first time for me because I’m a year five but this was a camp I will never forget!

One of my favorite activity’s was the kayaking because I had never done it before so it was quite a challenge and my partner (Anna) helped me really well along the way. Thanks Anna!

A physical and emotional challenge for me was the rock climbing because when I reached the top I was really proud of myself. But then I thought how was I going to get down because it was quite a reach. I felt worried and scared like if the people who where supporting me below let go and I fell. But finally I got down safe and sound!

I supported my friends in the camp concert when they felt a little low or a bit nervous. I encouraged them which made them feel good inside and gave them confidence and it was really nice because that is what they did to me.

The highlights for camp for me would be everything! It taught everyone that relating to others and working as a team is really important!

The challenge I grew though was the mountain boarding. Firstly, because I had never done it before, secondly it was something I could work on and challenge myself and thirdly because it would be something if I ever get a chance I would do again and again!!
    Thanks Anneke 

  13.   Nina Says:

    hey its nina here,
this was my second camp and i liked it way better than last years!
    i enjoyed every activity.
Rock climbing was very fun because we were aloud to belay our friends without any help and I made it up to the top every time! I enjoyed orienteering because you got to run all around the camp site trying to find the clues. Each clue gave you in between 10 and 40 points, and my group got all 500! Archery was really cool because I hit the bull’s eye 4 times and got to get into the gold club! Mountain boarding was quite challenging because nobody had ever tried it before, we had to learn how to steer by ourselves and at the end we went down this really steep hill.Kayaking was really fun because at the time my activity group went the waves were really strong and I had kayaked before so it gave me a bonus. My group made a Whale 6 by 2 metres. It was related to the other group because they did Rangitoto Island and Whales live around Rangitoto Island. Ultra High Frequency Radios (U.H.F. Radios) were cool because we played sardines and Noughts & Crosses. We heard others speaking on them like people on boats and taxi drivers. These U.H.F. Radios communicate by sending waves and can receive other U.H.F waves from 6km away.

  14.   Francesco Says:

    Francesco here
at camp this year i loved mountain boarding and kayaking because on mountain boarding you had to drive around tree’s and on kayaking we had to change kayaks with another group. My physical and emotional challenge was doing rock climbing because if I fell down I mite die but I had a harness on so I wouldent. I supported a person in my group who was climbing the rock wall and said he wanted to come down but I was saying to keep going in the end he came down boo hoo. My highlight of camp is mountain boarding I never fell of and I got to the end of the hill, I wish we could go there again bye for now ,Francesco

  15.   andrew Says:

this year I liked mountain boarding because I could se how diferent it was to riding my skate board and because it was fun going down big hills.I supported kevn when he was playing his guitar and I got supported when I was mountain boarding. I was tested in rock climbing to see if I could make it to the top and I had a race but I got beaten by a girl because I just couldent pull my self on to the very top because I was tired. I can not wate to go back and do more mountain boarding because I feel more confindent to do it again. I liked the most about camp was makeing new friends and having fun.

  16.   felix Says:

    Hi Felix here,
The favourite hightlights of Shakepsear lodge were mountain boarding, because you could go really fast down hills and it had a brake not like skateboarding and also archery, because I was quite good at it and it was really fun.
An emotional challenge was the climbing wall because I couldn’t reach the next foothold but my friends cheered me on and I made myself do it.
I encouraged other people by cheering them on and giving them feedback after they had accomplished the activity.
I loved the whole camp - it was the best camp I have ever been to. Some people gave my dad a lovely thank you card and he really appreciated it and will definately come to the next camp. We both love it.
I am looking forward to the next camp already.
    Felix

3.well there was one time were I was climbing up the rock wall and I needed my friends to help me out so they did - by yelling out you can do it!!!!!!!
4.my highlights of camp would have to be archery because it was really fun and I had a really great time and the other oone was that mountain boarding IT WAS SO FUN!!! when we got to do the jump it was so awesome!!!!!!!!.
5.well something that I had done was that was challenging was the kayaking IT WAS SO FUN AS WELL!!!!

one last thing I think Binny had a really nice time because he always wanted to be first and to give every thing a go, so I think this will be in his highlights for the rest of his life - like we all will!!!!!!!

    thanks jock.

    Hi, I’m Kevin,

This Is the second time I’ve been to camp.

I liked the the rockclimbing because I love challanging stuff. It’s not so exciting to do the easy ones.

The rockclimbing was an emotional challange, although I’ve got a harnness on, I still felt a bit scared, I think if I fall off, it’s going to hurt.

I’ve never done mountainboarding before, but it’s fun.

At camp concert, I played guitar. It was scaray in front of lots of peoples when I started playing, but it wasn’t that bad when I finished, because I got supported by the people cheering me.

  21.   Amelia Says:

This is the second time I have been to camp bacause I am a year 6

My highlight of camp probably was either kyaking or climbing. Kyaking beause because I had never done it before and I found it really fun!And climbing because I made it to the top of every climb I did and I really find it fun!

My group was supporting me when I was doing climbing. I really liked it when I got to the top because there is a brillant view up there.

An phiscal challenge for me was mountain boarding because I was afraid I would fall of and really hurt myself.I overcame it by turning alot so I wouldn’t bump into anything

An emontanal challenge for me was climbing because I was afraid the rope would snap I overcame it by thinking the rope was extra thick

    Bye for now
    Amelia:) :) :)
